About Creative Curriculum Solutions
Hi fellow creative educators! I am a neuroscientist, turned educator, turned community organizer. I left the field of Neuroscience in 2004 after having a crisis of conscience regarding the use of amphetamines to treat our most vulnerable and creative youth. I knew from my research we could build healthy attention systems, and so I left the laboratory and became a classroom teacher on the South Side of Chicago working with the most reluctant learners, and having some great success.
I went on to receive my doctorate from UCSD in Educational Leadership. My thesis pointed to ways we could teach and create healthy learning experiences for our youth. In the following years, I continued to develop curriculum that would help non-traditional learners connect to the content in meaningful ways. I found the task impossible in the public system during the era of the Common Core. So I started a non-profit where I could work with my own community members, providing creative learning experiences in a natural learning environment.
Curriculum is the map that allows us to take children on a journey into meaningful school experiences. Today curriculum has taken on a rigid and standardized format that leads our students nowhere, leaves the individual interests of the child out of the equation, and deprives them of the joy of learning. The goal of Creative Curriculum Solutions is to develop easy to understand, personally meaningful content that is aligned with developmental needs of each unique child.
